Andrew McHarg commenced his 21 year career in the construction industry as an apprentice Carpenter and Joiner in the mid-nineties. On completing his apprenticeship, Andrew subcontracted his business to a high quality spec builder prior to moving to London. In London, Andrew continued subcontracting and it was during this time that Andrew was exposed to the interior fit out and refurbishment industry by undertaking the fit out and refurbishment of a string of London Jogger sport and apparel stores.
On Andrew’s return from Europe, he was engaged as Operations Manager of a small family owned business which focused on interior finishes and mechanical services and soon moved into the General Manager role. During this time, Andrew was exposed to the management aspects of business allowing him to hone his business acumen.
Andrew spent 8 years working with a national fitout and refurbishment contractor on roles from site manager to commercial manager. During his tenure, it is estimated that Andrew delivered and was responsible for over 100 million dollars’ worth of work in areas such as greenfield construction, commercial office, retail, hotels, hospitality, state and federal government, education and science and healthcare.

John Bain has worked in the construction industry for 20 years. Starting in a graduate role with Boral, John developed skills in sales, market identification, segmentation, stock management, production, budgeting and forecasting with Midland Brick. Leaving Boral as one of two Export Managers with responsibility for North Asia and Europe John had established a direct to market network in China and cemented relationships with the Boral’s joint venture partners in Korea and Japan.
With subsequent experience running a residential and commercial ceiling contracting business and an insulation supply and supply and install business during the Federal Government home insulation program John understands both the supply and the contracting sides of the industry. John brings an understanding of both the theory and disciplines required of a contracting business and the reality of dealing in the industry.
John has worked as the Business Development Manager for a national fitout and refurbishment contractor with responsibility for developing and executing the state Business Plan. John has a hands on approach and as well as identifying potential clients and new market segments works through the Bid process to determine client needs and drivers into the delivery of projects. Analysing market data and validating it through direct market contact has seen John position into the new market segments of Education and Health with better margin and weaker competitive dynamic. John has driven the process to formalise BD locally through the use of a CRM, communicating nationally within the business and negotiating projects using alternative models of engagement including hybrid CM Fee converting to Lump Sum engagement.
John focuses on converting relationships into the delivery of projects and to position OPRA as a contractor of choice for Clients, Project Managers, Designers and Architects. John is responsible for identifying and winning new contracts and the day to day management of OPRA.

Robert Slowey has over 10 years’ experience in fitout and commercial contracting with two Tier 2 contractors. Over this period Rob has taken responsibility for roles including Estimating, Site and Project Management and Business Development. Rob previously worked as the Senior Estimator for a national fitout and refurbishment contractor with responsibility for the Bid and Estimating function in WA.
