Home to one of the largest tap-beer selections in Australia, the locally owned and run Refuge Small Bar aimed to create a comfortable, warm and inviting space, themed on a classic-style workshop.
Working closely with Design Theory, OPRA were able to see the owner/operator vision through by maximising the use of pre-existing infrastructure. By re-purposing the existing kitchen, light fittings, plumbing fixtures and carefully selecting honest and raw materials, OPRA maxmised the unmoving budget for the project. Realignment of the front-of-house and fabricating steel benches, solid timber tops and two of the largest beer fronts in Australia housing 12 tap beers, was then possible creating the bespoke classic atmosphere.
